On 17 September 2019, the application laboratory in Aachen was officially opened. As part of the Fraunhofer Cluster of Excellence Advanced Photon Sources CAPS, laboratories are being set up in Aachen at the Fraunhofer ILT and in Jena at the Fraunhofer IOF – the User Facility.

A major goal of the project is the early work on various applications. In addition to the multi-kW ultrafast laser sources, the jointly developed system technology is available in the application laboratories. There, engineers will explore applications in four future fields: production, imaging, materials and fundamental science.

Partners from science and industry are invited to participate in order to help shape the transfer of research results into commercial implementation. Industrial partners can use the laboratories of the User Facility to investigate possible application. In doing so, they can call on the knowhow of the various Fraunhofer institutes.
